Have you heard of 'Borderline Personality Disorder'?

Did you know it's a label most commonly given to women by the psychiatric profession?

No? Well read on.

Although only 2% of the population receive this diagnosis, 75% of these are women and 75% within this figure are women who have experienced some form of childhood abuse.

Some people cope better with the symptoms than others and lead fairly functional lives. Others find life a lot more difficult. Whatever your experience, help is at hand at Friend in Weston-Super-Mare. If you can answer 'Yes' to five or more of the following questions perhaps our women-only self-help group is for you?

  • Do you ever get confused and fearful about your relationships with others?
  • Was your past traumatic and is it impacting on your life today?
  • Do you ever feel panicked about the idea that those who are important to you might abandon you?
  • Do you ever feel empty and numb?
  • Do these feelings lead you down a path of self-destructive and self- harming behaviours?
  • Do you find it difficult to calm yourself when you are upset?
  • Do you often feel misunderstood and unfairly judged by others?
  • Do others suggest to you that you are overly sensitive?
  • Have you encountered reluctance from mental health services to become involved in supporting you?
  • Have they suggested to you that you have a borderline personality disorder?

We recognise that women experiencing these difficulties also have a great deal of strength and resilience. So whatever your situation if 'yes' is the answer then get in touch on 0790 229 0246 for a confidential chat and get the support you need. Alternatively email us at bpdworker@friendcmhrc.com
